Dries Van Noten - Velvet Violet
Defined by contrasts and plays of texture, Velvet Violet belongs to a woody floral gourmand family.
Available in 3ml, 5ml and 10ml bottles.
Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Violet Leaf, Clary Sage Essence
Heart Notes: Toasted Sesame Absolute, Barley Roasted
Base Notes: Grilled Tonka Beans, Benzoin Resinoide, Vetiver Essence
This one opens on my skin with a bold burst of powdery violet, but it doesn’t stay there for long. Within minutes, it begins to soften and warm up as the tonka and roasted sesame come forward, while the clary sage smooths the transition beautifully. I can absolutely understand why so many people have said this was released during the wrong season—it initially wraps you in a cozy, almost autumn-like warmth that’s incredibly comforting.
As it continues to develop, though, the fragrance takes an unexpected turn. The vetiver gradually emerges, adding a dry, woody quality with just the slightest touch of smokiness. It lifts the fragrance out of that cozy fall space and gives it a much more versatile, year-round character. The warmth never disappears completely; instead, it’s balanced by the earthy freshness of the vetiver, creating a composition that feels both comforting and refined.
What I’m left with is a violet that’s powdery enough to make its presence known without ever feeling old-fashioned or overly cosmetic. It’s beautifully complemented by the nutty, toasted richness of the sesame and the creamy sweetness of the tonka, while the vetiver ties everything together with a sophisticated woody backbone. The contrast between the soft florals, warm gourmand facets, and dry woods is what makes this fragrance so interesting.

The Queen Of Scent is a wholly independent entity not affiliated, connected, or associated with the manufacturer of the fragrances you will be receiving. Decants are rebottled by hand, by The Queen of Scent from genuine fragrance bottles into smaller bottles.
You will not be receiving the original manufacturer’s bottles or packaging. You will be receiving a labeled bottle indicating the name of the fragrance that has been decanted into the bottle.
I believe this is an excellent way for my customers to try as many different fragrances as they would like, without committing to a full bottle.
